Unit 2: Meditation Reflection

My experience with the Journey on Relaxation exercise was great. I have a regular practice of meditation so getting into that state is fairly easy for me.  The minute I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, I immediately started to relax and felt the flow of energy into and around my body. My eyes fluttered rapidly and my head began to move without me actually moving it. I felt as if my body was physically grounded, but a part of me was light as a feather floating slightly above my body.  I experienced everything that the guided meditation instructed me to do/feel.  I felt the blood coursing through my veins from my abdominal area to my arms and my arms felt so heavy I could not lift them. I then felt the blood return from my arms/hands to my abdominal area and they felt light again. Overall, it was a great experience and I feel relaxed as a result.

  1. Hey DeLeon, Thanks again for your pointers with meditation. I revisited the experience, only on the floor leaning back on the couch, with my knees in flexion and my hands on my legs as you proposed. It was comfortable and I was able to easily stay awake through the entire cd, it truly is something I need to practice and perform on a daily basis. What an amazing way to disspell the garbage of worry even for a short time that is running ADHD throughout my mind. Thanks, again, I enjoyed your blog as well:) kelsy

  2. DeLeon,

I have to say I enjoyed the experience myself. I have been so tense lately, I needed this particular exercise. I was able to unwind my muscles and relax. The experience I am definately going to revisit the experience. Thanks for your reflection of how it made you feel.

  3. Hi, DeLeon.

Good description of how the guided relaxation exercise made you feel. Your use of imagery to describe your experience makes it very easy for a reader to nderstand the sensations you might have been experiencing even without sharing that experience.

I find it very interesting how different people will have completely different reactions to the same stimulus, as I really struggled to achieve relaxation with this exercise despite trying multiple times. On the other hand, that is why there are so many different methods available. It gives us as individuals a chance to discover what does and does not work for us personally.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

  4. The part that I enjoyed most about this meditation is that I did feel the change in blood flow. It really showed how the mind can make changes in the body. My arms were very heavy and I really barely attempted to lift them. I look forward to not just doing more meditations, but what they will be like.
We seem to all have different experiences with this exercise, but it might also be because of what experiences we have had meditating before.

  5. Thank you for your post Joy. I agree with you. There are many different methods and modalities to achieve the same objective - stress relief and increased relaxation. Awareness of our inner connection with our Higher Self, Divine Mind or Supraconsciousness is achievable through the use of a meditation practice that suits us best. Repetition is the key and it gets easier with time. I’ll be the first to admit that I start meditation and later find myself thinking about my grocery list and that’s okay! I bring myself to back center and resume where I left off. All is good!
